Krista, I really liked your analogy. I have always been interested in technology, but the field changed very rapidly while I was busy doing other things, like raising my children and teaching in a school with a very limited budget and almost no technology. So in spite of my interest, I find myself also "pay[ing] no attention to the man behind the curtain." The courses I am taking have helped, but I still feel way behind the millennials out there.
I know how you feel, Alma. My husband was the director of computer at our local university. I should have been picking up all kinds of knowledge from him, but I was busy raising four kids and doing all the activities that come with it. By the time I had time to breathe, he was no longer with us. We lost him ten years ago in a motorcycle accident. I have had to learn the technology stuff on my own with help from my kids, in-services, and forced participation through my college classes. The advantage of all that is I tend to be able to talk to other non-techies and we are learning together. I must admit, however, I tend to still reach for paper and pencil when I want to really express myself. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading your blogs during this class. I have learned more about technology in 8 weeks than I have in all my former attempts. Let's keep in touch. knebel@bolivarschools.org is my address at school. Have a wonderful holiday season. K
